Fresh Facts Trails Involvement of Other Ogun LG Chairmen in Wale Adedayo’s Saga

Fresh controversy has trailed the circumstances leading to the impeachment of former chairman of the Ijebu North Local Government, Wale Adedayo, last year for alleging the diversion of the statutory allocation of the state’s local governments by the state government

Adedayo, who was suspended before his impeachment by the members of the Local Government’s legislative council, had alleged that he had the backing of 16 local government to write the petition containing the allegation

Reacting to the allegation on monday, the other local government chairmen whose term expired last week,  accused Adedayo of acting alone in writing of the petition, and sending it to top APC officials.

Adedayo in an interview with cable online publication last weekend, said only three chairmen, those of Ijebu North East, Odeda and Obafemi Owode, were not party to the petition

The former chairman recalled that after he drafted the petition, 17 local government chairmen, including himself met in the chamber of Abeokuta South Local Government, where it was approved.

Adedayo recalled that he made a fundamental mistake of writing the petition on the letterhead of his local government, instead of that of the association of local government of Nigeria

Another mistake he made, according to him, was not asking all the chairmen at the meeting to append their signatures to the petition.

On Monday, the immediate chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government who was also the ALGON Chairman , Babatunde Emilola Gazal, denied their backing of Adedayo to write the petition.

Addressing a news conference in Abeokuta, he called Adedayo a liar, adding that he only informed other local government chairmen after he had sent the petition

He said all efforts they made to restrain him from writing the petition and allow internal resolution failed.

Ogun central will produce Ogun’s next governor in 2027, says Tunji Ishola

Former Nigeria high commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Sharafadeen Tunji Ishola has asserted that Ogun central would produce the state’s next governor in 2027.
According to the former steel minister, this is the first time that the Egbas would agree on the zoning of governorship to the Ogun central senatorial district.
Ishola, who is suspected to be interested in the state’s 2027 governorship, stated this on Wednesday while addressing members of Ogun women in politics who hosted him for his sixty fourth birthday.
The reception took place at the residence of apc national leader, Aremo Olusegun Osoba at the GRA, Ibara in Abeokuta.
The former diplomat dismissed claims in some political circles that Ogun central’s quest for the 2027 governorship poll was a calculated agenda to sabotage the dream of Ogun west to produce governor for the first time.
According to him, Egba politicians have been spearheading moves by the Ogun west to produce Ogun state governor, citing how former president Olusegun Obasanjo backed late general Tunji Olurin, while he served as his campaign manager during the 2011 polls.
Ishola also said in 2015, he backed another Ogun west candidate, prince Gboyega Isiaka, while former governor, Ibikunle Amosun, another Egba politician, sponsored Prince Adekunle Akinlade, also from Ogun west in 2019.
Also in 2023, Ishola said that Amosun backed another Ogun west candidate, Tunji Otegbeye in the governorship poll.
