Ogun State Government has advised residents of flooded areas of Isheri, Riverview Estate,Oshorun Estate,OPIC Estate, Arepo,Mawere,Akute, Alagbole,Orimerunmu and Magboro who are currently affected by the recent release of water from Oyan Dam to abide by its earlier flood alert advisory to either relocate or elevate from the areas at this period of the year.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya stated this in response to the flooding situation in the areas which was necessitated by their lowland nature and higher level of tidal fluctuation from river flooding at this time which forced the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority,ORBDA to release excessive water from the Oyan Dam.
While noting that the release of excess water from the Dam is unavoidable to avert its damage which might lead to unpalatable consequences, Oresanya assured residents of the areas that the flood water would start receding significantly from Friday 25 October through waterways, water courses and canal dredged and provided for that purpose earlier by the Dapo Abiodun lead administration at ameliorating the problem adding that Ogun State government is working assiduously with its Lagos counterpart and the Federal Government to finding lasting solutions to the perennial flooding problems in the areas.

Ogun state government has asked residents of the lower parts of Ogun river on the state’s border with lagos not to panic over the massive flooding of the area.
The state environment commissioner, Ola Oresanya said the communities would continue to experience more inflow of water from Ogun river this week.
Oresanya, speaking in an interview with Rockcity FM on Friday, assured that the flood would start receding this weekend.
Communities in the axis, including Isheri, Akute and others on the bank of Ogun river, had been experiencing inflow of water from the river into their homes in the past four days.
Several people in the axis had vacated their homes to safer places.
Oresanya told Rockcity FM that he visited the axis last week with his team, to alert the communities of the impending flood between October 15 and October 26.
The commissioner said the flood was due to a rise in the sea level which spilled into Lagos lagoon into Ogun river.
Another secondary source of the flood, according to him, was the ongoing release of excess water from oyan dam into Ogun river.
Oresanya faulted report that the flood was caused solely by water from oyan dam, adding that if this was so, areas close to Ogun river in Abeokuta would have been flooded.
The commissioner explained that the ministry was monitoring the release of water from the dam, which he currently put at 17 million cubic metres daily, which according to him was within the regulated limit.
