In a landmark event held at the YES FM hall in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the Association of Nigerian Broadcasters (ANBROAD) elected its inaugural set of national leaders.
The Provost of TNM Media Academy, Abdulrasaq Abdulganeey, known widely as Mr. G.R.A, emerged as the first President of the association.
Joining him in leadership is the popular Abeokuta broadcaster, Akinyemi Olatoye, affectionately called Alawiye federation, who was elected as Vice President 1.
The election saw a robust turnout and the selection of a comprehensive executive team, which includes: Olori Adeola Yusuf – Vice President 2, Dr. Sola Gbayisemore – Secretary General, Omolola Yetunde Aishida – Assistant General Secretary, Akolade Adekola – Corporate Communications Secretary, Olufunke Olaoye – Auditor 1, Adeyinka Ogunremi – Auditor 2, Alhaji Rasheed Yekeen – Chief Whip, Rasheed Ojelabi – Assistant Corporate Communications Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Ayodeji – Treasurer, Bayo Famoroti – Financial Secretary, Afolabi Adebayo – Assistant Financial Secretary, Ogunsanya Eniola Fadhilat – Welfare 1, Jumobi Omisore – Welfare 2, Olugbade Oluomo – Organizing Secretary, Mr. Bolarinwa Omolade Ayoola – Assistant Organizing Secretary, Olori Yetunde Badmus – Ex-Officio 1 and Shola Seriki – Ex-Officio 2.
In his acceptance speech, President Abdulrasaq Abdulganeey urged his colleagues and all members of ANBROAD to maintain professionalism in their broadcast content.
He emphasized the importance of an accurate and systematic database that would make the biodata of all members accessible globally.
This initiative aims to establish a comprehensive website capturing members from all states.
Abdulganeey also highlighted the establishment of a monitoring and ethical committee to ensure the professional conduct of members, in collaboration with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), to uphold quality and standard broadcast content nationwide.
Training and retraining of members are prioritised, leveraging his position as the Provost of TNM Media Academy to facilitate this development.
He added that the welfare and empowerment of members are also at the forefront of ANBROAD’s agenda.
He stated that the new leadership aims to assist members in turning their talents into profitable ventures through new media and other platforms, with a commitment to support from the Almighty.
The inauguration event attracted notable figures from Nigeria’s broadcasting sector, including Prince Kolade Alabi, the Steering Committee Chairman; Alh Sulaiman Adegbenro (Consoligbadun), the Secretary; Chief Olu Akindele (Alafin Abuja), the Corporate Communications Secretary; Chief Mrs. Ibiyemi Ajadi (Iya Kodi), the Treasurer; and Chief Abbey Fagboro.
Other distinguished guests included Elder Goke Babalola, GM Fresh Abeokuta, Alh Gboyega Lawal ; Chairman & CEO of 101.7 Yes FM, Comrade Yemi Sonde; Chief Timothy Agboola Erekeni; Alh Dr. Akinkunmi Alabi, GM Fresh 104.9fm Osogbo; Oloye Kola Akintayo (Ode Ilu Ibadan); Alh Abdulfatai Adeniyi Dan Kazeem; Dr. Bade Ojuade; and Alh Bisi Ajib.
ANBROAD is a break away from Freelance and Independent Broadcaster Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) a parent body of Nigerian broadcasters after years of unsettle rift among members.
