Sixty Two Suspected Cultists Arrested Within Fifteen Days In Ogun State

In a major crackdown by the police on cultists terrorizing various communities in the Ogun state, about 62 suspected cultists have been arrested by various police units between January 14 and 28, 2024.


52 of those arrested claimed they were members of Alora, one is a member of Aiye Confraternity, five were members of Eiye confraternity, and four others, whose group could not be identified.


The State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, announced this while parading suspected criminals arrested across the state, at the state police command, Eleweran, Abeokuta.


The major catch for the police were the 52 members of Alora confraternity including some females, arrested on January 27, at Ifo, near Abeokuta by operatives of the special weapons and tactical team (SWAT).


The 52 were arrested while initiating new members at a hotel at Iyana Abiodun in the town. some of them managed to jump the fence of the hotel and escaped.


The Police Chief listed items recovered from the suspects as needles, tee shirts with Alora inscription, three vehicles and 58 cell phones.


Later on January 28, police swooped on four cultists at a secluded forest at Kamalo in Ogijo,
they fell into a gully while attempting to escape arrests, leaving one of them dead in the pit, while three others were injured.


Earlier on January 14 at Adatan, Abeokuta, two cultists were arrested at a gathering of Eiye Confraternity hosted by the group Capone, who had been on the police watchlist since last year.


Also on January 16, one cultist who is a member of Eiye confraternity was arrested at oke-yeke, near isabo in abeokuta with a locally made pistol. Three days later, another member of Eiye confraternity who was arrested at ilupeju, near ota , named seven other members of his group to the police
on January 27, SWAT operatives in an early morning raid arrested a cultist regarded as the hit-man of Eiye confraternity in the ijebu axis.


The cultist, nicknamed ‘butcher, claimed to be a student of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, near Ijebu Ode.
Arms and ammunition recovered by the police from his residence, included one serviceable browning pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition and its magazine, and one pump action rifle with (10) rounds live cartridges
Others are one English short double barrel riffle, two locally made short single barrel riffles, one locally made revolver pistol loaded with (02) rounds of live ammunition, and assorted criminal charms.

Ogun Police Launches Manhunt for APC Councillor Killers

Police say they have launched a manhunt for the killers of an APC councillorship candidate, in the Ogun state November 16 local government poll.
The candidate, Adeyemi Adeleke was shot dead on Saturday afternoon at Jide Jones axis of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state capital.
His assassins shot him at a close range and smashed his head to ensure he was dead before fleeing the scene.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola said policemen have been deployed to track down the assasins.
Odutola in a telephone conversation said the killers are suspected cultists and were armed with a pump action rifle and a pistol in an unmarked Toyota corrola sport car.
She said police immediately visited the scene after the incident, took photographs, while the family of the late candidate requested to take his body away without a post mortem examination.
The police image maker said police investigations of the incident was underway to arrest the fleeing killers of the candidate.

Group Raises Awareness on Gender Violence

The centre for community development, family and health initiative has alerted of the rising reported cases of sexual and gender based violence in Ogun state.
The centre chief executive director, Fidelis Olumide Igbodipe issued the alert in Ijebu Ode during the training organized by the centre for media practitioners on sexual and gender based violence over the weekend.
He explained that the training aimed at raising awareness, promote dialogue and advocacy for policy change to tackle sexual and geder based violence (SGBV) in the state.
Igbodipe said the focus of the training was how the media could assist in continuous advocacy, communtiy mobilization and engagement on the issue.
He called for a change in the perception about sexual and reproductive health rights of the people and zero tolerance for SGBV.

NDLEA Arrests Drug Kingpin in Abeokuta

A suspected drug kingpin, Ajiboye Damilare has been arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The suspect, according to the anti-narcotic agency, has been on its wanted list for over a year.
He was arrested on Wednesday, last week, in a bank in the city.
Spokesman of the agency, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday said the suspect had been evading arrest since NDLEA operatives raided his warehouse, at Akala Street, Mushin in Lagos on September 4, 2023.
According to Babafemi, a total of one thousand and 101 kilogram of Ghana loud was recovered from the warehouse.
Since then, Babafemi said the directorate of assets and financial investigation of NDLEA which had been tracking him, linked him with 20 bank accounts and blocked them.
