Three nabbed for robbing Ogun poly students

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly robbing some students of Gateway Polytechnic Saapade, Ogun State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this to our correspondent on Friday.

Odutola explained that the suspects: Musa Adamu, Marasa Aliu, and Yahaya Muhammed were arrested following a report of a break-in to the residence of some students in the Obalende area of Isara Remo on January 8, 2024.

Between November and early December last year, robbery attacks were recorded in the school, leading to the death of two students.

Several others were reportedly injured.

The attacks reportedly led to the suspension of physical classes by the management of the institution which also directed the students to stay out of school for two weeks.

Our correspondent learnt that a three-kilogramme cylinder and about three mattresses suspected to have been stolen from the students’ apartment were recovered by the police.

Speaking on the arrest, the police spokesperson said some students returned to the school after a holiday to discover that their apartments had been ransacked and that a refrigerator, among other items, had been stolen.

“The students just returned from holidays and discovered that their apartment had been broken into. There was a reported case of some stolen items. Our investigation led us to the arrest of Adamu and two other suspects in the crime,” Odutola said.

Before the recent arrest, at least eight suspected robbers were apprehended in connection with robberies and killings in the school between November and December last year.

Also, the police command was said to have recovered two Lexus vehicles and other items stolen during some of the attacks.

So-Safe Corps Apprehend Two for Theft, Recover Stolen Items in Ogun

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has apprehended two suspects, Abdullahi Idowu and Samson Ojo, for theft in the Idiroko border area, demonstrating the Corps’ commitment to ensuring that no crime goes unpunished, regardless of its magnitude.

In a statement issued by the State Commander, Commander (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, it was disclosed that the suspects—Abdullahi Idowu, 18, a resident of Babaloke area, Idiroko, and Samson Ojo, 17, residing at Etikoto, Ikolaje area, Idiroko—were apprehended around 10:30 p.m. on November 17, 2024. Both locations fall under Ipokia Local Government Area.

The suspects were caught during a joint routine patrol by the Special Squad and the Idiroko Divisional Team of the Corps, led by Chief Superintendent Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq. Upon their arrest, they were found with two bags containing a stolen generator engine parts.

Commander Ganzallo revealed that a preliminary investigation uncovered that Abdullahi Idowu is an ex-convict who previously served a jail term in the Benin Republic. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing the generator engine parts from the Idiroko border area and admitted to stealing a large battery the previous Friday, which he sold to a scrap dealer.

The suspects were taken to the scene of the theft in Idiroko, where it was confirmed that the stolen generator parts belonged to a customs office. Additional parts of the generator were discovered in a nearby bush.

Ganzallo further stated that the suspects, along with the recovered items, have been transferred to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, Idiroko, for further investigation.

Ogun NDLEA Alerts Public on Usage of Female Sanitary Pads as Psychotropic Drugs

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted that female sanitary pads not properly disposed in Ogun state are being abused as drug by some youths in the state.
According to the agency, some youths are now picking used sanitary pads not properly disposed, from dust bins and neighborhood across the state.
The state NDLEA deputy commandant, Mrs Eucheria Ekwu made this known to newsmen on the sideline of a youth orientation programme for secondary schools students in Abeokuta.
She said the youths involved in the act, after collecting the sanitary pads not properly disposed, inhale in order for them to be high as if they are on drugs.
The NDLEA commandant, who was worried over the spread of the abuse, advised girls and women in the state to always burn their sanitary pad after usage.
She also expressed concern over youth as young as nine year old using psychotropic drugs such as loud, sk and Colorado.

Just in: Ex Ogun councillor murdered by suspected cultists

Some suspected cultists have allegedly murdered a former councillor in Abeokuta North Local Government area of Ogun State, Mutiu Akinbami.

It was gathered that the councillor was gruesomely murdered at Olomore area of Abeokuta on Friday’s evening by a rival cult group suspected to be Aiye Confraternity.

Acctording to eyewitnesses, he was killed in the presence of his son while on transit.

It was learnt that his body has been evacuated by the police operatives in the state.
