Pensioners in Ogun State are urging Governor Dapo Abiodun to extend the Christmas bonuses, traditionally awarded to civil servants, to include retired members in their festive season financial considerations.

In a heartfelt Christmas message conveyed to Governor Abiodun, Comrade Bola Lawal, the State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, expressed gratitude for the governor’s proactive steps.

Lawal acknowledged and appreciated the timely disbursement of December pension payments to pensioners before the onset of Christmas celebrations.

He also commended the governor for the thoughtful extension of a ten thousand naira palliative to help offset the impact of the petrol subsidy on the elderly pensioners.

While recognizing the strides made by the government to address the financial concerns of pensioners, Comrade Lawal passionately appealed for the inclusion of pensioners in the distribution of Christmas bonuses.

He emphasized that such a gesture would not only boost the financial well-being of pensioners during the yuletide season but also contribute significantly to their overall financial stability.

“Your Excellency, we acknowledge your commitment to our welfare, especially in the prompt payment of our December pensions and the palliative extended to ease the burden of the petrol subsidy.

However, we respectfully request your benevolence in extending the Christmas bonuses to pensioners as well.

This would greatly enhance our financial capacity and make a lasting impact on our well-being,” stated Comrade Bola Lawal in the message.

Pensioners, who have dedicated their lives in service to the state, anticipate Governor Abiodun’s consideration of their plea, trusting that such an extension would bring additional joy and relief during the festive season.

The request aligns with the broader aspiration to ensure that the spirit of Christmas is shared equitably among all members of the state, including those who have retired after years of devoted public service.
