Ogun Judicial Workers Suspends Strike

Courts across Ogun state re-opened today, after shutdown by striking judicial workers for 12 days.
The judicial workers, under the auspices of Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) had embarked on an indefinite strike since last April 8, to protest the non extension of the peculiar allowance paid to civil servants by the state government to them.
Judicial workers’ union leaders on Tuesday afternoon announced the suspension of the strike and ordered all their members to report at their duty post on Wednesday.
The state spokesman of JUSUN, Adenekan Abiodun said the decision was taken after a meeting with top state government officials on their demands on Monday at the governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The meeting, convened by the secretary to the state government, Tokunbo Talabi noted that judicial workers were excluded from the peculiar allowance payment, because their union was not a member of the state joint negotiating council.
Abiodun said the meeting agreed that JUSUN would be given a slot in the technical team that would negotiate the proposed new national minimum wage that would be unveiled in May, at the state level.
It was agreed that JUSUN’s membership of the proposed wage negotiating committee would afford it the opportunity to push for the demand for the peculiar allowance, along with the new minimum wage.
JUSUN spokesman said the union regards the agreement as a fair deal for judicial workers in the long term.
