Ado-Odo/Ota LG To Establish Environmental Task Force To Promote Market Hygiene

In a bid to ensure market hygiene and promote healthy living, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, has planned to establish a special task force to checkmate traders’ incessant disregard for environmental regulations and enforce sanitation exercise among others in the area.

The Council Chairman, Hon. Lawal Wasiu, made this known, at a meeting with market leaders across the local government at the council’s secretariat, Ota, explaining that, one of his priorities was to promote healthy living, where markets would be clean and hygienic enough to boost business activities. 

Hon. Wasiu said, part of the measures to achieve clean markets was to establish sanitation task force that would mete out stringent measures against defaulters, stressing that environmental sanitation was key to healthy living, safety and well-being of the community at large.

He urged market leaders to educate their members to maintain clean environment, promote hygienic living in the market, adding that the Sanitation Task Force would work along with market leaders towards achieving the set objectives of enforcing, monitoring and reporting sanitation defaulters for appropriate fine.

In his remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Junaid Wasiu, urged the Iyalojas and Babalojas to support the local government by contributing positively to its development, as well as providing information that would help in advancing the socio- economic development of the council.

In his contribution, Director of General Service and Administration, Mr.  Bisi Akinde, added that the marketers should not only maintain hygienic environment but also eschew road side trading, that could impede free flow of traffic.

In their separate remarks, Iyaloja General Chief (Mrs.)  Adetoro Adeogun, Iyaloja Atan, Chief (Mrs.) Bosede Isiyemi; Babaloja Oju Ore, Chief Ibrahim Dada; appreciated the Chairman for taking steps towards addressing challenges confronting the market.

They called for intervention over increment in the markets levies among other disturbing issues affecting commercial activities, adding that waste bins and refuse package vans should be provided by the local government to make refuse disposal seamless across the area

Famous Ogun State-born Socialite, Princess Adebisi Edionseri aka Cash Madam who 

passed on Sunday, 5,January  2025 during a brief illness will be buried today.

Princess Adebisi became a household name and toast of musicians, especially Chief Obey commander in the 60’s and 70’s and was popularly called ‘Cash Madam”

Her death was made known in a statement by one of his sons, Dr Adebayo Adebowale on behalf of the family.

‘With deep gratitude to Allah for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Princess Kadijat Abike Adebisi Edionseri (née Elegbede), who returned to her Creator on 5, January 2025 at the age of 89, following a brief illness’, the statement read.

“The funeral will take place according to Islamic rites on Monday, January 6, 2025, at her residence located at Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta by 6pm.

‘Her life was a shining example of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith. Princess Edionseri touched the lives of many through her wisdom, kindness, and dedication to both her family and her community. She taught us the importance of love, resilience, and faith in Allah, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations’, the statement read.

‘As we grieve this monumental loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life she lived. Her laughter, warmth, and the values she instilled will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us as we navigate life without her physical presence’, the family added.

OandO Chairmanship: Alake of Egbaland resigns, Ademola Akinrele takes over

Oando Plc has appointed Ademola Akinrele as its board chairman after Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, resigned from the position.

In a statement on Friday, Ayotola Jagun, the company’s secretary, said Oba Adedotun Gbadebo formally notified the board of his decision to step down as chairman and retire as a board member of Oando.

Oba Gbadebo’s resignation, according to Jagun, took effect immediately after Oando’s annual general meeting (AGM) held on December 17, 2024.

“Oba Gbadebo served with unparalleled distinction for over 18 years on the Board, including 12 years as Chairman,” Jagun said.

“Throughout his tenure, he provided steadfast leadership, wise counsel, and a fatherly presence, guiding the company through significant milestones, including several landmark transactions.

“His steady hand and unwavering commitment were pivotal in steering the company through challenges while ensuring growth and resilience.

“The Board and Management of Oando Plc express their deep appreciation to Oba Gbadebo for his remarkable contributions and leadership over the years. His legacy will forever be an integral part of Oando’s story.”

Jagun said Akinrele will drive the company’s strategic vision forward, with his extensive experience, which includes working at Agip Plc, Danos & Curole Marine Contractors.

“Mr. Akinrele brings extensive experience and expertise to this role, having previously served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board and as Chairman of the Governance & Nominations Committee,” she said.

“With decades of distinguished service in the legal profession, he is widely recognised as a leading authority in commercial law, litigation, aviation, and maritime matters.

“Mr. Akinrele holds an LL.B (Hons.) from University College London and an LL.M from the University of Cambridge.

“He has also served on the boards of Agip Plc, Danos & Curole Marine Contractors, and other notable institutions.

“His exceptional leadership abilities and capacity to foster consensus among stakeholders position him well to lead the Board effectively.

“The Board is confident that, under his chairmanship, Oando Plc will build on its legacy of excellence and explore new avenues for growth.”

Jagun also announced the appointment of Cosmas Iwueze as an independent non-executive director, effective December 16, 2024.

“Cosmas Iwueze is a seasoned petroleum engineer and business leader with over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry,” she said.

“Joining Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) in 1990, Cosmas rose through positions of increasing responsibility across Reservoir and Asset Management, Commercial Development, Operations, Project Management, and Business Strategy.

“He also gained international experience working with Chevron in California and Angola. Cosmas previously held leadership roles as Business Services Director for Chevron’s Nigeria/Mid-Africa unit, General Manager of Operations, and General Manager of Asset Development and Exploration.

“Notable achievements include securing third-party financing for JV projects and contributing to national petroleum policy development during a secondment to the Nigerian government.

“Prior to retiring in November 2024, Cosmas served as Director of the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture (JV), overseeing the JV asset development, major projects, as well as oil and gas production with profit and loss accountability.”

Jagun said Cosmos led strategic initiatives at the joint venture, managed multiple general managers, and acted as managing director when required.
